Regarding the Casting Stone, we utilize a Gypsum Cement that dries to a pristine white, providing fine detail and being chip & chalk resistant. Overall, it is approximately 3 times stronger than the traditional art plaster or "plaster of paris." The Refill Powder Set for the Luna Bean INFANT Hand or Foot Casting Kit includes (1) bag of Step 1 Chromatic Molding Powder and (1) bag of Step 2 Casting Stone, along with basic mixing ratio instructions.
It is important to note that the original kit contains two (2) sets of powders. To reproduce the exact same quantities of the original kit, you will need 2 refill sets. It is assumed that the user has already purchased the complete kit and has working knowledge of the molding and casting process. Only mixing proportions are included with this refill, as the full instructions, containers, and other finishing supplies are included in the complete kit.
The Step 1 molding powder has a set time of approximately 4 minutes when using room temperature water, and it will set faster with warmer water. The mixture starts out pink, and when it loses its color, it is about halfway through the set phase. A 16-24oz dish or cup should be used to mix and hold the molding gel.
The molding compound is a non-toxic and non-allergenic powder that was specifically created for use on skin. It has been tested by the ACTS Testing Labs and conforms to the ASTM D4236 for safety. This product is considered a "food" item and is safe to come into contact with even newborn baby skin. It sets in about 2-3 minutes, at which point it turns rubbery and flexible.
